Fall/Winter Trending Colors: Brown Is The New Black
With winter quickly approaching, outfits are changing - tank tops and shorts are being switched out for cable knit sweaters and leggings - and with that, it seems pertinent for a new color palette too. Common go-to colors include dark and muted tones such as beige, grey and black; however, an unlikely color has been reappearing frequently this fall amongst celebrity and influencer wardrobes and mood boards: Brown.
While brown has always been a staple for the fall and winter seasons due to its neutral tone and compatibility with other colors like cream and beige, this season in particular, brown is making a comeback, not as a complementary colour, but as a statement. With public figures like Kylie Jenner and Zendaya donning monochromatic brown outfits, it’s no surprise the trend has caught on so quickly. But what exactly makes brown so special?
According to Ida Petersson, womenswear buying director at Browns, “rather than draining you, it warms your features.” Its various rich tones and warm hues, when styled effectively, can create chic, modern, and effortlessly attractive outfits. Additionally, brown paired with brighter colors like magenta or electric blue can create a bold, striking look. Brown’s versatility shows that it’s universally flattering, and given the recent focus on minimalism and streetwear in the fashion industry, it’s no surprise that the color is becoming increasingly popular.
While the color brown has been gracing the world of high fashion and runways, brown themed outfits can be dressed up or down depending on your budget, mood, or vibe. Whether you choose to channel your inner Bella Hadid on the streets of New York, or opt for some more casual looking outfits, you can never really go wrong with the color brown.
