What We Wear Wednesday: Layering for Warmth
Happy Finals Week! The cold weather, exams, and papers make getting out of bed in the morning extra unpleasant, but the light at the end of the 10-week tunnel is so close. When you’re done with finals, pat yourself on the back, and ponder on some winter outfits to wear over winter break!
We often assume that beauty requires the sacrifice of comfort and that fashion requires the sacrifice of warmth. However, with the help of layering, winter outfits can be both fashionable and warm.
For example, if you’re adamant about wearing a cute skirt or a pair of jeans, you can wear nude stockings or leggings underneath. Uniqlo’s HEATTECH collection is an example of thin, warm layers that you can wear underneath sweaters and coats. In a sense, layering allows for more creativity since you can go crazy with the combination of colors and textures!

Here is Chizaram Iwuanyanwu wearing a chic, monochrome outfit paired with a red sling bag that adds a pop of color. The patterned design of the blazer and the material of the skirt add texture to the outfit. Knee-high boots are a great way to protect the legs from the cold when you’re wearing skirts!

A contrast of warm, earthy tones against black. The green hoodie beneath the leather, patchwork jacket helps complement the earthy green boots. A casual, layered outfit that is cozy enough for the chilly weather.

Turtlenecks and coats are classic staples for the winter. The green blazer adds a unique pop of color to the neutral outfit. If you look closely, you can count four top layers (turtleneck, knitted sweater, blazer, and coat)!

Vertical stripes and lining of the blouse and knit turtleneck pair well, and buttoning down the blouse allows for the turtleneck to shine through. The black trench coat matches the black, buckled ankle boots, pulling off a sophisticated look!
