The stay at home orders have restricted functions and places that were common in our day to day lives. However, the outdoors and the nature that surrounds us is still open to adventure (at a safe distance).

The Ecological Restoration Association at UCLA (ERA), an association dedicated to restoring ecosystems, has undergone a few changes during this virtual environment. Although they are not able to meet in person, the members of ERA share an educational platform informing their community of invasive plants, habitat conservation, and sustainable efforts to tend to the environment.

Regardless of an online atmosphere, ERA emphasizes restoration work as a priority that anyone can partake in. Their educational forums can benefit the public in learning how to take direct action in preserving the vibrant ecosystem that surrounds us.

Aside from educating their audience and providing holistic mentorship, the members of ERA share their experiences in the great outdoors through their fashion sense.

Laurel Thomas

Laurel Thomas

Laurel is a second-year environmental science major. She is wearing a UCLA Bruins graphic t-shirt for comfort and mobility. Her light grey jacket adds dimension to the dynamic blue color of her t-shirt underneath. The green terrain behind Laurel highlights the vivacious environment and habitats that contrast Laurel’s muted clothing tones. It is the world of the green vegetation and Laurel is just living in it!

Rhay Flores

Rhay Flores

Rhay Flores, president of ERA and fourth year ecology, behavior, and evolution major, is shown here holding a small piece of the earth in her hands. You can see here that she is not afraid to work the soil through the aid of her comfortable outfit. Rhay is wearing an off-white color through her UCLA hat, and she has her t-shirt tied into a loose knot. She keeps her outfit monochromatic by pairing it with black leggings that provide her the ability to move around freely in this environment. For a pop of color, she adds a velvet sweater, making her stand out from the browns and green tones surrounding her.

Sophia Todorov

Sophia Todorov

Sophia Todorov is third-year ecology, behavior, and evolution major, and she loves to hike, run, and rock climb. Her latest adventure was her summer in Colorado studying marmots! This terrain requires that she equip herself with the appropriate gear. She is prioritizing comfortability to match the landscape she adventures in and the climate that surrounds her. Her outfit is camouflaging (quite literally), with her olive green long sleeve in coordination with the pine trees behind her. The pants of her choice blend into the dirt landscape that she is standing on. This outfit is a thumbs up!

Rebecca Cheung

Rebecca Cheung

Rebecca Cheung is a fourth-year environmental science major utilizing art as communication in furthering environmental issues. Here she is captured at Zion National Park, blending into the rocky terrain with her chocolate brown jacket. The green beanie highlights the scattered shrubbery of the environment. Rebecca points out the need to cut down the carbon footprints we leave in our paths by maintaining our current wardrobe for at least 9 months. Buying second hand clothing leaves a large impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions tenfold. These ecosystems are worth the investment.
