Student Spotlight: Elena Guevara

Elena is a third year Global Studies and Economics major and will be showing her collection at this year's fashion show; Sanctuary.

What is your Sanctuary?

My Sanctuary isn't a place in particular; it is just having time to myself with nothing to worry about. That is when my creative juices start flowing and I begin to come up with designs in my head.

What is the inspiration behind your collection?
I have always been obsessed with statement jewelry! I also really enjoy making jewelry in my free time, so I decided I would design a line of statement jewelry for the show. My inspiration is therefore statement jewelry that has a bohemian feel and that draws flavors from different cultures.

When did you first start designing/sewing?
I first started designing and sewing when I was in the fourth grade to make clothes for my barbies. I started designing and making jewelry when I was a freshman in high school.

Who is your designer crush?
Shourouk. They're jewelry is amazing!

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is simple and monochromatic. I tend to wear a lot of black so I depend on jewelry to spice up my outfits.

What is your favorite part about designing?

My favorite part about designing is finally seeing the finished product. I love imagining something and seeing how I eventually make it manifest itself into something I can wear!

Hope to see you at the show!
