Some artists are iconic and some clothing pieces are iconic, and John Paul Gaultier's corset allowed for both. The fashion landmark lead Madonna to become almost synonymous with a very specific piece of clothing.
Madonna first began sporting the corset in the mid 80's, and ever sense it has been hard to envision her in anything else. The dramatically geometric almost futuristic cone shape coupled with the garments older more strict origins, reflects a complexity not only in the corset itself but also in its wearer.
