Fashion Dare: The Neckerchief

The idea of a neckerchief can conjure up images of boy scouts and Fred’s little orange ascot on Scooby Doo, and while these are awesome style reference, we get that not everyone want’s to look like a little boy or man who just stepped out of the seventies. Thankfully, the neckerchief has received a much-needed update, as evidenced from the likes of Leandra Medine, Georgia May Jagger, and Marc Jacobs.

To avoid looking like a Fred, John Wayne, or that little boy that lives down the street,  treat your neckerchief as if it were your favorite choker. For a more modern look, wind your favorite silk scarf or bandana as close to your neck as possible so that you will minimize the amount that will be leftover after you tie your knot. If you are feeling a bit more nostalgic, tie the scarf so it hangs further away from your neck and place your knot so that a few inches of your scarf will remain loose.  

Next time you reach for your default choker, choose a scarf and tie it into a neckerchief instead. We dare you.
