For the Love of Fashion: Sport Luxe?
What began last year with designers sending the now infamous heeled and platformed sneakers down the runway, eventually evolved into the all out "sport luxe" trend for Spring/Summer. Track pants (essentially trousers with vertical stripes down the seam), mesh netting, baseball caps, and jersey style construction were hot choices for designers like Alexander Wang and Phillip Lim. Paired with high end jewelry, stilettos, and of course an awesome structured bag, the sport luxe look for Spring is fresh and fun, if not always functional.
Drawing upon athletics for inspiration is nothing new in the world of fashion, but we love the fresh take designers took as they channeled athletic inspiration for this latest trend. Clean lines, simple silhouettes, and a minimalist color palette mainly utilizing neutrals with pops of neon make the sport luxe look very wearable, very versatile, and something we're excited to say we haven't seen before. Classic athletic brands like Nike and Rebok now have a place in high fashion and not just the gym. Designer collaborations such as Stella McCartney for Addidas is proof that the sport luxe trend has some staying power.
