Weekend Warriors: Rose Bowl Flea Market
Looking for something to spice up your next Sunday? Then the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena is your day trip destination. Overflowing with hidden treasures and well-dressed hipsters, the Rose Bowl is the perfect place to spend your day and not worry about spending all of your money.
The Low Down: Artists, collectors, and vendors from all over California descend upon the Bruin's home field on the second Sunday of every month to sell their unique items. You'll find everything from one-of-a-kind artwork, to vintage Dr. Martens, to antique phonographs. This massive flea market covers most of the Rose Bowl parking lot and is open from 7AM to about 3PM. General admission is $8.
Travel: The drive is roughly 30 minutes from campus; be sure to leave early in the morning if you want to find parking quickly. Public transportation options are also available.
What to Bring: Water, a snack, and cash. (Most vendors only accept cash).
What to Wear: Check the weather, because you will be outdoors and walking around. Comfortable shoes are a must. That being said, you will be surrounded by the best dressed hipsters in LA, so we wouldn't recommend sweats (unless they're uber fabulous sweatpants and you're wearing them in the most fashion forward way).
Tips: The more expensive vendors tend to be located in the front near the entrance (most antiques and art are sold here). Cross the bridge and head toward the back to find more affordable apparel and shoes.
Always haggle. Vendors love to take advantage of our young, innocent faces and jack up the prices on items that are probably worth half of what sellers ask for. The beauty of the flea market is that no price is set in stone.
