Style Icon: Whitney Port

On Wednesday the ever lovely Whitney Port visited UCLA to speak about her career in reality TV and fashion as well as answer questions from her dedicated fan base that turned out to support her.

Whitney talked about her time on The Hills and The City, and answered that ever nagging question: Was it real?? The answer, dear readers, was, well, kind of. Nothing was scripted on either of the shows, but the cast was encouraged to "play along" with certain situations, in order to up the drama. Whitney even admitted that she was originally cast on The Hills in hope that there would be friction between her and LC.
After answering these questions, Whitney moved on to talk about her fashion career and the inspiration behind her current line (the crown jewels). She stressed the importance of gaining experience through internships and using all of your connections to get a foot in the door. She even suggested taking a grass-roots approach, like directly emailing the companies that you would like to work for, may be one of the best strategies for landing your dream internship. Her biggest piece of advice for those dreaming of a career in the fashion industry was to follow your head and your heart to pursue your passion, and don't let "dirty work," like unpacking boxes or going on coffee runs, dash your dreams. Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you do your job well, that somewhere may lead to achieving your dreams.

All too soon, the event came to a close, and Whitney graciously met and took pictures with everyone who attended. And if you were wondering, yes, she really is that tall, and yes, she really is that nice. Thank you for such a great event Whitney!
One of our bloggers was lucky enough to win an autographed copy of Whitney's book
